This traditional Chinese patisserie has been in continuous operation for over 100 years, passed down through five generations of the Lee family. 李亭香 offers several different types of sweets, including more nostalgic varieties that are hard to come by elsewhere. For instance, 爆米香 (more often than not referred to in Taiwanese as 'beng mi pang'), a semi-sweet rice krispie square with sesame and peanuts (minus the stickiness that one associates with its Western equivalent, as no marshmallows are involved). Another perennial favourite is 綠豆糕 (pressed mungbean cake). These are made by pressing very finely filtered and sweetened mung bean paste into a mould. The texture is smooth and rich without being excessively sweet. They are often served with Chinese tea, and come in many delicate shapes and designs. Another similar type of pressed dessert is the 鹹梅糕 (salted plum cake), which, despite its name, is not overtly salty, but has a rather a subtle flavour. As well as puffed rice cakes and cakes made from pressed paste, 李亭香 produces flaky pastries with many types of filling, sweet and savoury. These 餅 are round and flat, being a sort of pie & cake cross-breed. The most staple of 餅 from Lee's is 平西餅, the filling of which is made from jack bean paste. Other favourites include shitake mushroom, and curried pork (surprisingly delicious!). In recent years Lee's has also developed a westernized 平西餅 with cheese. This is on my 'to try' list... Lee's is situated at the quieter end of 迪化街 (Dihua Street). The Dihua Street area of used to be a hub for all sorts of trade - especially dried goods, and was home to many wealthy families. With recent restoration many buliding fronts that grace this narrow street have been restored to their former glory, and are definitely worth a visit. Altogether transports one to a different time in old Taipei. (吃完了李亭香的餅,順便把盤子給舔個乾淨。這樣才叫做過癮。)

They dont honor the funpass free cakes anymore, could just be a misunderstanding but we were not given the free cake after asking multiple times. What they gave us was a 12% discount after giving us a slip of paper with the number 88% and naive us thought it was an 88% discount. The macadamia bun we bought tasted good tho plus we bought the snow puffs.

Bakery quality and taste of the old shop is as elegant as the new year concert and dancing in the photo! 優雅的新年音樂會正如其糕點品質和品味!
