Lishan Guesthouse

Historical setting up in the mountain, beautiful exterior, one less star for not decent breakfast. Ambience: Located amidst the clouds in a surreal setting. The guesthouse was built by C.K.S . It was designed by the same architect, Yang Cho-cheng (楊卓成), who designed the Grand Hotel in Taipei City, in 1965. This hotel used to be the dwelling house of the late president, Chiang Kai-Shek (蔣介石), when he visited Lishan together with his wife. The views are amazing and the road to Lishan are breathtaking. Room: pristine and clean. Beds are on the hard side, just like most Asian beds. The first floor doesn't have a view out of the window. Towels are thin, and some toiletries provided. Not any outstanding or eye catching decorations. Service: great service although not sure if they speak english. Breakfast: mostly Asian. Salads, noodle, vegetarian dishes to have with the porridge.

The Lisha Guesthouse is a historical site that was built to serve as a major summer retreat of the previous president Chiang Kai-Shei in this beautiful mountain area. The buildings resembled traditional Chinese palaces. You may now walk in the gardens and short trails that were not open to the public.

The scenery is beautiful but the rooms barely worth the price. The restaurant's food is awful, the tables and buffet plates were swarming with flies, absolutely unacceptable for this price category!

A wonderful place that used to be president K. S. Chiang’s villa when he received foreign dignitaries. Now it is a 4-star hotel with a great Mountain View. Very good service. I left my camera in its transfer van. Later when I called not only they found it they also shipped it back to me. When you are there, make sure you book a trip with them that takes you to a beautiful nearby farm.

Spring rolls not cooked/fried thoroughly. Bad attitude from restaurant owner, stingy. Overall, the dishes were far below our expectations.

It was a great experience at this hotel. One of my friend had altitude sickness, the manager drove her to the health center. And after she’d recovered picked her up from there. It was a big help for me. Thanks so much.

The hotel itself has interesting history and a great setting, with stunning views down the mountain. The rooms are comfortable. But it is let down by its staff - we had booked in advance, but when we arrived the staff insisted that the hotel was full. Whether this was disorganisation or anti-foreigner sentiment is not clear (the hotel was definitely not full, so I suspect the latter). They finally found our booking confirmation and let us check-in. The food in the dining hall was also some of the worst we had in Taiwan.
