The accommodation is just ordinary . Facilities are a bit old. The night walk to check out fire flies were the only highlight.

The view is amazing. If you love the forest and tall trees like I do, this is a must-go. From the hostel it's a stone's throw from the Cloud Trail which is a breathtaking walk and a practice in silence. I could hear the echo of my cough - it was that quiet. If you're looking for peace this is it. The vegetables in the food are all prepared from the farm's produce. The reason why it's missing a star is the lack of heating in the room. I was freeeeeeeezing at night despite wearing a downjacket to sleep. The owner was kind enough to offer to drop me off at Chiayi HSR because he was headed there but I got off at Xiding because I had a bit of time left. Xiding is beautiful for mountain views. The hostel also has a small sunroof and a large glass window with nice view of the surrounding (and a cherry blossom tree right outside the window to boot). I stayed for a day and was really happy there. Wrote on some free postcards to send home. Was just a teeny bit disappointed there were no fireflies as it wasn't the season and it was too cold anyway.

The cons: The room was very dated and felt like a stay in rural China but at a much higher rate. The cheaper rooms cost $4000 and the more updated ones $5000. But it is a popular place with 2 busloads of guests when we there. Price includes dinner and breakfast, food is simple and very local. The pros: It is located 15 minutes away from Fenchihu and the location is quite peaceful. A walkway connects to their small tea farm uphill of the inn. You can watch sunsets from there. Also there is a beautiful Cloud trail a short walk away. The night of our stay the owner hosted a mochi making session with everyone taking turns pounding the sticky rice in a large wooden mortar and pestle into mochi. The kids really enjoyed it. Afterwards she led the group in making bamboo pinwheels, also quite fun.

Interesting stay. We went on their firefly night walk and were able to see some fireflies AND people in our group also saw an odd white black creature thing moving towards us from the forest. The guy who first spotted it asked the guide what it was a few times but she didn’t answer him. People started backing away from it and she lead us out soon after. Never found out what it was? Cool fireflies tho.
