This is a bus stop, not far away from my home, at a walking distance of 5 minutes on foot, if it is a rainy day, it will be tough, though, I use this stop a lot, as a staging post to various areas in Taipei, in New Taipei, or even in Keelung. I use EasyCard (悠游卡) to pay the fares. Bus fares are cheaper than the Taipei Metro's. Libraries in Taipei, as far as I know, have the cards as a pass to be allowed to borrow books (and as ID's during the Covid-19 pandemic period to visit the libraries), schools use them as the ID's for students, and city governments use this card to offer transportation subsidy to senior citizens (NTD480 per month, to renew every 6 months) Initially people had to make deposits to the cards, then banks introduced co-branded cards, either through debit or credit card mechanism to make payments, so frequent users did not have to worry about if the stored amount was enough. The circulation of this EasyCard was about 63 million in 2018, people have multiple cards for a lot of reasons. Visitors to Taiwan are advised to buy blank cards at the convenience stores (NTD100 a piece), then put deposits at convenience stores (preferably), or at Metro stations, in any amount deemed appropriate. If you cannot use up the deposit, kindly treat it as a donation to the card issuer (Ha Ha), while you may keep the card as a souvenir.
