It's a museum dedicated to a lesser known historical event in Taiwan - the February 28 massacre. Discussion and coverage of this incident was heavily suppressed till martial law was lifted in 1987. Most exhibits are in Mandarin but there are English audio guides that can be rented.

Went here and the national palace museum. Would strongly recommend this place over the palace museum if you are at all into modern history. Only takes a bit over an hour, and is well set up for English speakers. You will learn all about a very sad time in Taiwan history following the Japanese surrender in world war II.

We escaped from a boring meet and suprisely found this beautiful historical building which was founded by government and running by local charity. The exhibition inside was nice and intention. Careful telling stories about February 28 Incident in Taiwan. If you are interesting in history, especially Taiwan history. Here is the place you must visit.

Prior to my visit to this museum I had not heard of the 228 incident, so it was enlightening for me to know this part of Taiwan history. The storyboards as well as the testimonies of the victims' families are heart-gripping and reminds us that peace and good governance does not always come cheap.

Important history. It's nice for a nation to be so strong as to allow self criticism, this speaks of conscience and culture. And don't agree with those who say that letting it go would make Taiwan appear better. But seems to be rather excessively exploited for sensation. The interior architecture is definitely worthy a visit.

Good museum that explains the events that led to the infamous Feb 28 massacre and the subsequent military rule of Taiwan that saw widespread human rights violations. The narrative is matter-of-factly and ends with a message of justice and reconciliation. Most exhibits only have descriptions in Chinese. There are English audio guides at the reception for those who need them. The people working at the museum only speak Chinese. Admission is free.

Free entry. A nice memorial museum to learn the 228 history of Taiwan. The building itself is a beautiful piece. And they have some events held here.

Ticket is free. The museum is easy to find, and nearby with other museums so it's a nice destination. If you are interested in history, this is a very good place to see and learn one of Taiwan's most important history. Keep in mind that unfortunately the museum's information is in Mandarin, however, they provide a barcode in which you can see the english translation, but it does require extra work. The building itself is amazingly pretty, the architecture is really picturesque, but inside holds a really disturbing history of Taiwan. Overall a good place to really appreciate how Taiwan people fought for their freedom of speech.
