National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a famous national monument, landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. It is located in Taipei. The monument, surrounded by a park, stands at the east end of Memorial Hall Square. It is flanked on the north and south by the National Theater and National Concert Hall. The Memorial Hall is white with four sides. The roof is blue and octagonal, a shape that picks up the symbolism of the number eight, a number traditionally associated in China with abundance and good fortune. Two sets of white stairs, each with 89 steps to represent Chiang's age at the time of his death, lead to the main entrance. The ground level of the memorial houses a library and a museum documenting Chiang Kai-shek's life and career, with exhibits detailing Taiwan's history and development. The upper level contains the main hall, in which a large statue of Chiang Kai-shek is located, and where a guard mounting ceremony takes place at regular intervals.

In spite of the controversy of the name, it's totally worth visiting.The memorial is in the middle of a huge esplanade, flanked by the national theatre and the national concert hall. All of those structures simulate beautiful traditional Chinese pagodes. Furthermore, the memorial as well as the other structures are surrounded by a beautiful garden with sculptures so it is perfecto to just go and relax by walking across it. The memorial hall stores indoors a museum about Chiang Kai Sheik life's as well as Taiwan's history. It's a must go if you are in the country, and the views are gorgeous. I highly recommend to book in advance tickets to watch a performance in the theater or listen to a Chinese traditional concert.

A cool area a bit away from downtown. Big square with a lot of amazing architecture. Good picture taking spot. I would recommend going here if you are around the area.

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall is a unique building designed monumentally with the characteristic of the dome and a beautiful setting. When you’re here, you can watch the honorable guard changing every hour, and then take a look at all the exhibition not only the history of Chiang Kai Shek but also the history of Taiwan, together with many other exhibitions can make you spend hours in here. The outside area around the memorial hall is Zhongzheng park with a harmonious garden design. Walking in the premises, visitors will admire the unique and traditional garden style. In addition, the park is free for public and of course the best place for people from senior to junior to gather, enjoying the spacious and pleasant space. But not only that, located within the memorial site is the National Concert Center and the National Theatre. These are two outstanding projects in the campus. The place is chosen have attracted many art exhibitions, outdoor performances, drama, dance on weekends, as well as international performance every year.

Outside park There be large hall n gardens with fish pond. Very clean and tidy for the public place. The Architectures of Chinese building very well maintained. Lot of guide sign inside so you won't get lost. Reachable by all public transportation especially by MRT.

What a great memorial hall park secluded in the middle of an ever busy city. The center piece of the hall is flanked by two traditional Chinese building structures. Entering into the park, I was met with a wide open space. After an hour or so covering most of the park ground, I thought this is just what the residents of a overcrowded city need during any day in the week to enjoy a short walk in a winding path through a carefully arranged garden dotted with trees and flower beds; or to reserve admission to art exhibition or performing in one of the two traditional Chinese building structures; or to stroll along the not-too-long corridor along the side of the garden. It's not like the other parks that are always filled with people, pets, bicycles, sounds from children playing and loud noises from motorcycles zooming by. Seemingly the walls around the park were not there to barricade, but to create a peaceful land for people to come enjoy. Although the size and surroundings cannot be compared to those of the Lincoln Memorial or Constitution Gardens in the US, but I found the same feeling of solace, tranquility or whatever you could describe the calm state of your mind pacing myself in this park. I wish the park authority could replace some of those cold cement slab in the square into some warm green lawn.
