★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hands down the best and most informative museum I've been to in Taiwan. Almost all signage in the permanent exhibits had excellent English translations (the temporary exhibit we saw had no English). There were a lot of signs with a good amount of information explaining how various artifacts were made and used, and how people lived. We went a Sunday afternoon and it was not particularly crowded. They even had luggage storage service and child strollers you could borrow (both for free); I think I saw wheelchairs as well, but I'm not completely sure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Near to train station and airport, this museum in Taitung city is really great, worth a visit.
The museum is embellished with sculptures, statues and other artifacts around, well designed and organised. The path and layout are easy for a walk tour.
There is a large garden in the backyard, planted with a lot flowers and trees. A hill with Moai statue at the top provides a good view to the plain around the city. It is very pleasant to look around the museum as well as appreciate the exhibition inside.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very interesting museum navigating Taiwan’s prehistory. It explores the different animals and plants present in Taiwan over the years as well as the human interactions with them. It’s worth noting the inclusion of geological information and how it has shape Taiwan’s history. There are several areas in the museum dedicated to the indigenous tribes of Taiwan and their relation with their environment.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Although there are only a few exhibitions open, the entrance ticket was cheap. If you are interested in the history of aboriginal people that once or still live in Taiwan, this is the place for you!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This museum deserves more than just the name ‘Museum of prehistory’ as it displays a lot of the indigenous cultures of Taiwan in a very colourful and interactive way. It has quite a big display of natural history as well as today’s challenges to preserve nature and wildlife in a modern country that Taiwan is too.
The interactive parts make it fun for kids.
The building is quite impressive and there is much sculptural art in the garden worth having a look at. Most of all exhibitions are also in English though unfortunately not all interactive tools worked in the English version. Still, this place is more than worth a visit even though it’s a bit remote (easily done on a bicycle or with a taxi or even a train stops close by).
The area and the museum itself are quite small in number of visitors which might be different if school classes are around. And maintenance is always a challenge in Taiwan given the climate and budgets once a place has been build.
