過去內惟埤曾是北高雄第二大的埤塘，只比蓮池潭小一點而已，且為新莊子、凹子底地區重要的農業用水來源，舊時周圍有多條圳道。
但隨著北高雄的都市化發展，內惟埤也和北高雄其他埤塘一樣，免不了被填平的命運，時至今日；只留下了一個當作造景的小湖在美術館公園內。
The museum and the surrounding area used to be the Qiangtang named Neiwei, which is why the area near the museum is called the inner.
In the past, it was once the second largest pond in North Kaohsiung. It was only a little smaller than the lotus pond, and it was an important source of agricultural water in the Xinzhuangzi and Confucius areas. There were many Zhendao roads around the old days.
However, with the urbanization of Kaohsiung in the north, Neiwei is also like the other Qiangtang in North Kaohsiung, and it is inevitable that it will be filled in. The only small lake that is used as a landscaping is in the Art Museum Park.
