據說樹齡有500年以上，附近的的小孩若體弱會敬託給老樹王作義子，以求健康、平安與長壽。小廟旁有解說牌介紹老樹，雖然沒有後龍的茄苳樹王有名，但和大里樹王一樣都是台中市列管重要的老樹之一。
位處聚落舊名為客仔莊，推測過去曾是客家聚落後遭閩化；小廟前的小路較為窄小，開車的旅客要進來可能要先找地點停車。
