泰安觀止溫泉會館 Onsen Papawaqa

We came in late when checking out, but they were able to deliver the dinner to our room, which was really considerate and friendly. Kids are not allowed in the public onsen, but you can choose to stay in room if you like. It’s good but a little chill in at the end of March. Afternoon tea is available but only coffee and very limited snacks are provided. Not as spacious as the picture shows. Breakfast is good but definitely needs improvement in terms of variety. Sudden noise in the restroom woke us up one early morning; we drove half an hour to strawberry pick with the complimentary coupon, but the field was not opened. We complained these to the front desk and only got two box of tea bags. Worthy trying but definitely overpriced.

Unfortunately the facility is getting old and need major upgrade otherwise I won't come back without future improvement with the 5 stars price I paid. Just reminders, unless the room included the dinner buffet otherwise you can skip it as the quality and selection is below average. There are couple restaurants next to this resort and another good one just 2 min walking distances. And the review are pretty good according Google. The room is pretty spacious and I particularly enjoy the in room onsen that is a real pleasure after the hiking. Again, I saw some of the facility are under remodel which hopefully will reshape the resort in the near future.

It’s good that the areas are pretty nice and clean the only two disappointments are there’s literally too much mosquitoes here which means that maybe there’s not really clean. Second one is that although it has a big swimming pool but there’s some bugs’ dead bodies inside the pool so I don’t really know is it really clean or not.

A major disappointment for the amount they charge. This hotel deserves a two star rating for two main reasons, quality of buffet and quality of stay. It serves the worst buffet for a hotel that charges 5-star price and out of the 11 people we went with (6 adults and 5 kids), we all agreed that the best food is the noodle and ice cream. Again with a 5-star price tag, this place needs a major upgrade. The beds are the worst I have slept in for a hotel of this price, it’s comparable to beds in hostel.

The counter did not notify me the Steam room is under maintenance and still cost 800 NTD. The environment is surrounded with full insects.

This is my first time at this hot springs, and everyone I've talked to told me it was very famous in Taiwan and how fortunate I was to be able to go. Stayed for 1 night in May. Was able to reserve the free shuttle service from the HSR to the hot springs. When we got there, the front desk staff were really polite and even upgraded our room to a suite (I'm assuming because it was low-season and COVID...). Our room was fantastic! The only comment I would make would be that the door to the personal hot springs area blocked the shower, it was quite awkward to get into. The outdoor hot springs was really nice. They have multiple different temperature heated pools, a cold infinity pool, children's pool, and even naked hot springs if you want to. They also have a swim up bar where you can get free tea! The layout of the hot springs was really nice, and we were thoroughly impressed. Yes it is a bit dated, but I think they did well considering. Now, to why I only gave it 4 stars. I think due to COVID, they do not offer a dinner buffet. The dinner was a set menu of 10 dishes. The atmosphere of the dinner was a bit odd. The speed of which the dishes came out was off, fast and then slow, then fast, then slow? Out of the 10 dishes, (1 dish was fruit consisting of 2 grapes, 2 slices of pineapple, and 2 small triangles of watermelon), I would only eat about 3 or 4 of them. The rest of the 4 to 5 dishes were NOT GOOD! I don't know how to explain it, but the dishes were really not tasty. I wonder if the restaurant staff have tried eating their own food. Most of their dishes lacked seasoning or salt. For example, the shrimp dish was just butter and lots of garlic. I really couldn't believe that when the hotel is charging on average, 10,000NT a night, they would serve this dinner! I was even more shocked when I saw that the set menu was charging 900NT! I was almost going to say something to the staff but they were just too busy and I doubt they would have been able to do anything. Next time I come back, if there is no dinner buffet, I will choose NOT to have dinner there and either spend money on the local hakka restaurants nearby within walking distance (one is literally right beside the hotel), or take the 5 minute walk to 7-11 and buy instant noodles. Breakfast buffet was decent. At least it was a buffet with a noodle station and a wide selection of western and taiwanese cuisine. Overall, the value of hot springs was there, just not the food...

Buffet is probably the worst meal I have ever had in my life. Food is not tasty, not even hot at all. I went straight to 7-11 after dinner, a NTD50 convenient store meal is better than the buffet. Room is too close to the road so quite noisy. It is also very humid, especially after taking onsen in the room; highly recommend to not take onsen in the room. The staff are friendly though, exterior of the hotel is pretty too. It’s just not worth the price overall.

The hotel location is surrounded by river and mountain, nothing much to go in walking distance. Family room of 4 is pretty standard and clean with big hot spring area. The hotel buffet was so-so, not terrible but I've had better ones.
