單日來回13K完成 沿路平算好走多半樹陰遮蔽 後五百公尺才有階梯 沿途可眺望蘭陽平原礁溪、頭城一帶的平原美景 路途中有一間柑仔店可以買東西 有水源 有? 植物種類多 終點為北宜公路最高點海拔583公尺，此處是眺望宜蘭美景的最佳地點 有展望台&廁所&休息站&流動攤販

跑馬古道的入口建議從礁溪香腸伯（五峰路往五峰旗方向看到礁溪香腸伯右轉進去）右轉進去。進去之後會到南入口。大概步行一個小時就可以到上新花園。自己回程是從上新花園回到南入口大概50分鐘。沿途風景蠻美的可以眺望到平原及龜山島。非常值得一行。建議帶500 CC的水還有帽子登山杖

由礁溪往新北的中途，出了竹林、林蔭踏上柏油路往上新花園的方向。柏油路上沒有大書特書的景點，直到又進入林蔭小徑。接近北宜公路時，沿途可聽見車輛行經的聲音，卻又無法看到。 Northern part of Paoma Historical Trail, after leave the bamboo areas (from Yilan Jiaoxi to New Taipei’s Pinglin Dist) no special scenery along side of pavement, until get into trail of woods. When approaching Britishi Road (#9 freeway), you can hear cars or trucks passing nearby, but can’t see them.

古道北端的上新花園到中途的觀景台景色較佳，可欣賞蘭陽平原和龜山島的絕美風光，路旁的猴洞坑溪細石光滑，忍不住就踩石泡腳一下

從礁溪車站走到香腸伯最後到登山口北端約7km來回14km…步道無樓梯好走

南出入口走至 柑仔店（台語）（上新花園） 約40分鐘，在繼續走至 北出入口（北宜公路） 約25分鐘，整段路好走安全。南出入口 行動咖啡車如果時間不趕可以坐下閒聊放鬆心情，柑仔店因老闆已離開人間沒在開，不然可以買 涼飲、茶葉蛋、桶仔雞。 難度簡單踏青步道。

Easy trail good landscape round trip 8 km

Literally meaning "running horse historical trail", Paoma Trail is a fantastic trail gradually gaining around 300 meters in elevation throughout the total length of about 5 km. The southern entrance is close to downtown Jiaoshi while the northern entrance lies right on the border between New Taipei City and Ilan County. It takes about 3 hours round way. It used to be the only transport route between the Taipei basin and the Ilan plain during the Qing Dynasty. Later on the Provincial Highway 9 and the National Highway 5 were built to connect these two places. The northern entrance of this trail connects the Provincial Highway 9 at the point where many sharp turns (so called 9 turns plus 18 curves) are to come in order to descend into the Ilan plain. The marvelous and the longest tunnel ("Snow Mountain" Tunnel) in Taiwan, which is built along the National Highway 5 is also right under the northern entrance. This shady trail is a perfect place to go hiking even during hot summers. , It is also less populated than other routes in Jiaoshi. Along the trail, you may encounter a variety of ferns, bamboo forests, cherry trees, pine trees, the intersecting Houdongkeng (literally meaning "monkey cave") river with scattered rocks and chilly crystal clear water, sometimes Taiwanese macaques, and etc. Hiking on the curving trail with valleys underneath, one may look from multiple viewing angles at the Turtle Mountain Island on the Pacific Ocean, the elevated plain section of National Highway 5 along the Ilan plain, downtown Jiaoshi with many tall buildings, and the fields in the outskirt. Along the trail, there are multiple bilingual signs for the plants and the views. There is a cafeteria built inside a farm, which is about 500m from the southern entrance. You may rest and enjoy the 270-degree panorama over the Ilan plain on the terrace. Next to the cafeteria, there are also two camping sites. You may ride a scooter or drive a car (few parking lots due to limited road width) to reach the southern entrance directly. Alternatively you may take the bus which runs only on holidays to reach the bus stop of "Paoma Historical Trail" and start the hiking. Note this bus stop is about 1.5km from the southern entrance and you may find a snack bar of sausages next to it. The owner and his two sons run this bar on different days of the week. It is open in the daytime until the road lamp lights up.
