★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Was cycling round sun moon lake and saw this beautiful place. So had a pit stop coffee before aheading on to wenwu temple. Comfortable place... So relaxing music. Friendly staff too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ cheaper than others in the area, but that came with too much of a cut back: you sleep in a wooden crate next to 20 other snoring guests. Also further away from center, although still within walking distance.
Bring another pair of slippers if you don't want to walk bare feet on the freezing cold tiles. No shoes allowed.
Nice staff though.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hostel in Ita Thao, five minutes walk from the night market and around 7-10 minutes walk from the pond. The cabin car station is only 5 minutes away so it is very convenient.
+ Nice place, very clean, modern and affordable. friendly staff and good breakfast, we slept well and had a nice stay
- no view on the lake even if it is written in the description of the hostel, many mosquitoes

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The design of this hostel is marvelous. That's what you pay for as well though: at 800/night for a dorm bed this is the most expensive hostel I know in Taiwan. Given that steep price, the stingy attitude towards breakfast (max. 2 slices of toast per person) and lockers (pay-per-use coin lockers) is inappropriate. But all-in-all this is still a nice hostel to spend a night or two near the lake.

While other reviews say it’s on the expensive side, I think the price is great. Staff was delightful and the breakfast was good. There are few showers so you might have to wait to shower.
If you are taking the bus from Taipei, the bus drops you off on the other side of the lake. I arrived late, there is no public transport available and it was difficult to find a taxi.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely spot to stay in Sun Moon Lake. Super friendly staff and really great space. Interesting layout in the rooms - kind of like a dorm but still offering a reasonable amount of privacy, especially in the double beds which have their own tents. The downstairs area is very nice too, with plenty of space for people to sit and chill out together. One of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in. Absolutely recommend staying here.
