A small Japanese temple only a short walk from the Beitou Thermal Valley.

Peaceful Japanese-style shrine tucked away in the hills of Beitou, it's a short walk uphill with approx. 50+ steps. This is NOT a tourist attraction, and the shrine hosts regular prayers and meditation camps on weekends. A nice escape from the city when you explore Beitou on foot.

The small temple is located in Beitou area, and it requires a short distance of concrete-stone-step mountain climbing to reach the temple. The temple preserves Chinese Buddhist practice, deities, and worship in the pre-war Japanese building, which is primarily wood-beam framed, although it has been undergone partial renovation with concrete and brick material. The temple was probably built by a Japanese architect for the Japanese Shinto, Japanese religion, during Japanese occupation period in Taiwan. Up to now, there is an erected sign partially showing its early Japanese history and connection, although that sign is partially defaced. After the Nationalist government came to Taiwan in 1945, the Temple became property of one mainlander monk who gradually converted it to a Buddhist temple. The Temple keeper is generally friendly toward Buddhist worshipers but he can be aloof toward non-religious tourists, especially during the weekend and holiday. It is because the temple generally has only 1 keeper with other volunteers during special Buddhist holidays or other special occasions. Like most of other Buddhist temple, Puji Temple is not aggressive to raise fund or request donations from the visitors, either believers or non-religious tourists.

Japanese style temple located in a quite corner. A good place to take a walk and a look at. You'd better wearing sports shoes to climb up and enjoy your walk.

It's a Japanese style temple, supporting hot spring business.

Difficult to find due to lack of English signage and is much smaller and less extravagant than some of the other temples we've visited in Taipei, but still very cool to see and learn about the history.

Quiet little space for contemplation. The architecture with its gold and black is solemn but grand, but it’s the flora around that deserves a closer look.

Lovely Japanese Buddhism temple. Can feel the peace when walking up (the way is fully covered with tree shadow). When walking uphill please notice as there is only small stone signal for the temple, you might miss.
