Rainbow Village is located in Nantun district west of the Taichung city center. A 97-year-old man Mr. Huang Yung-fu resides in the village for many years and started with only a paintbrush to paint an entire village with his beyond artistic imagination to prevent the government from demolishing, and it creates the one and only – Rainbow Village. With the composition of his painting, it involves arranging the visual element with the daily life as a painting inspiration, such as his loved one, neighbors, characters, or animals, and even blessing words in vibrant colors as a way to express his feelings. Due to Grandpa’s effort, Rainbow Village has now considered to be one of the most popular tourist attractions and was managed and maintained by Rainbow Creative Co., Ltd. to preserve the creative spirit currently.

I got to day, it became such commercialized, not the plain simple military dependents' village any more. even some paintings are not done by the original painter, a grandpa who retied from military. if you haven't seen this, you can visit this place. though I don't think it's worth to visit again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We came here using bus from around the Taichung station, it took around 40 minutes to come here. When we came here it was so colorful! All of it was made as an art canvas even to the ground, they made it as doodle too! It was a creative ways to make a place like this. But I was a little bit dissappointed because when I came here there was a building construction so the sounds seems a bit disturbing. Overall, you should come here when you visit Taichung~

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A really cute place with a heartwarming backstory. One of the must visit spot in Taichung! A bit far from the middle of the city but accessible via bus and train, although I'd suggest to have a morning/afternoon visit, before 3 pm or so. If you're lucky, you can find the man behind the village and pay some respects to an incredible man!

You can buy souvenirs at the shops, and eat a dessert while you're visiting the hidden paths. This is a very special place in Taichung, totally recommended! ?You can see the whole area in one or two hours?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The rainbow village is well connected to public transportation from MRT or the local train station. The rainbow village shows the hard work and dedication of the 96 years old men who want to show how beautiful life is by painting beautiful colors on the walls. The village has 7 to 8 huts painted with beautiful diverse colors on it. There are some activities for small kids and information centers about the village and the old men. There is a souvenir shop and restaurant inside it. The village is about half an hour your and the best place for colorful photos. There is bike and bicycle parking behind the rainbow village.
