San Ma Stinky Pot

Local small shop, taste good & cheap price.

Located just steps from Cho Hotel where we were staying, it was a location we bookmarked to try since it closely resembled a favorite back home. Individual hot pots blazed upon a stove top, cooked to order at the front of the shop, and inviting people to dine from them. This show definitely caught our attention! We attempted to try it the first night we were in, but they were only available for takeout. However, we definitely bookmarked the location on our map to ensure we gave them a try on our last night on the area. It's very similar to Boiling Point back home where you choose your soup base and it comes with a myriad of vegetables and toppings. There's an option to order extras should you want to add more, but English menus were not available and we simply did our best with pictures lol We chose broth bases based on what was the most comparable to BP - Seafood Tofu and House Special Stinky Pot. The Tofu Seafood pot came with pork, crab, sea bream, shrimp, clam, fish cake, mushroom, Chinese cabbage, tofu, bean curd sheets, pig blood, green bean noodles and egg. The House Special had Taiwanese stinky tofu, pig intestine, pork, deep fried fish cake, sausage, pork meatballs, quail egg, mushroom, clam, pig blood, leek and cabbage in Chinese barbecue sauce. The meal itself was pretty filling and comes with a bowl of rice. Although there was an English menu for the broth and soup, that's where it ends haha! We were really confused on what next and/or if we wanted more veggies, how was it calculated or totaled. Overall, the meal was satisfactory.

I had the braised pork and mushroom bowl, only $30 NT for the small, and the bamboo shoots. Very fast, great taste, and super cheap. Went during a slow time and they were still moving people in and out quickly. Not good to sit and relax, but great if you want decent food on the go.

Ordered 25% off Ubereats takeout. Not bad but for the sets they offer on Ubereats you're not allowed to change ingredients even though they're of the same price which is a bit strange. Nevertheless good for pick me up during a rainy day and during soft lockdown in Taiwan.

Cheap personal hotpot. Filling, full of variety (mix of seafood, veggies, etc.), flavorful broth. Comes with rice, but can be exchanged for noodles for extra $.

Like mini steam boat.. Can choose ur soup base and add food u wan.. Very nice!!

Delicious home made hotpot at awesome local prices. Well patroned and absolutely packed. When I left at 8pm, there were throngs of people waiting outside! I had the fish head soup which was the traditional one with rich yam and deep fish taste to it. Will definitely return when I can, since they close only at 1am. Seats however, are rather cramped and it may be abit hard to come by, but I think it's totally worth it compared to any possible tourist traps in the area!
