Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum - Miaoli County

Works are displayed throughout the five floors of the museum. It takes about 40 minutes to walk around the whole museum. If you're passionate about wood sculpture, you might spend 2-4 hours enjoying the scent of wood and every unique work displayed. The special exhibitions on 3 and 4 floor and in the basement are changed every 6 weeks or depending on the schedule of the exhibition. Photography, however, is prohibited in the museum unless you're an approved reporter.

Beautiful wood carving. The woods smell good in the first floor. There are four floor and a basement. Elevator served second to fourth floor. To exit, visitor needs to walk the staircase from second floor to basement 1 and walk back up to first floor. The idea is for visitor to visit the shop in the basement before exiting. Alot of interesting carving exhibited.

The artistic talents of hundreds of woodcarvers is displayed on five floors of exquisite art. Presented are both historical and modem works. I found this three dimensional art collection to be developed with imagination, talent, and great care. The currators have made careful, funny, and often brilliant selections. With the exception of the lobby, no photography of the exhibition is allowed. However, there is an exception to this rule. A video system will record your image in front of a "green screen," combine it with a selection of stock photos, and send the combined picture to the email address you have entered. There are several choices of images available. My party chose a "walk in the forest." The composited image, looks remarkably real. There is no change. All floors are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair accessible bathrooms are available. A free parking lot, decorated with large wood sculptures, is directly across from the museum entrance. Admission is free, with identification, to those 65 years or older, otherwise there is a nominal charge. No food, drink, or photography is allowed. Water fountains are available. There is no restaurant in the facility. There are nearby restaurants.

A place populated with wood artworks. “Slow City” is the newly given name of ShanYi. Parking is pretty convenient. Visit fee is inconvenient. Lots of art works inside the museum. You may schedule a half day visit there. If you have enough time, take a look to more stores nearby.

Unlike traditional and rather dull wood carvings display, this museum shows very cool and modern wood crafts. TWD 80 for entry. Worth a visit.

Very nice museum with large collection of impressive "wood arts". Most pieces here are very unique and it was an eye opening. We came on weekdays so not much tourists until late noon. Don't forget to walk around couple shops on the left of the museum.
