1. From the desktop, right click my computer icon and select properties.
2. Click the Advance tab, and click the Enviroment Variables button.
3. From the System Variables, highlight OS and click the Edit button.
4. Change the variable name to TNS_ADMIN and the change variable value to the full path where your tnsnames.ora file is located i.e. C:\app\product\11.1.0 \client_1\Network\Admin\Sample
5. Click the OK button.
6. Restart the computer.
You should now be able to create the connection and your database alias should now be visible in the Data Source dropdown list.
