we just popped in for a browse and owner spent 30 mins making us different teas tea and explaining how it is grown and brewed (in English). he is clearly very passionate about tea and growing it carefully and this all comes through in how he tries to educate his customers and introduce them to high quality teas. it was a great experience

In our search for li shan High Mountain tea, we came upon excellent reviews for Shing Hwa Tea Shop. We went up to Taipei just for this occasion and came away with an overall feeling of appreciation for the art of tea. Not just any tea, but high quality organic tea for a healthy lifestyle. We were kindly greeted and quickly shown the tea we were looking for. When my partner began to ask questions, the gentle owner came down and not only answered our questions, but took the time to explain the differences and showed us the practice of meditation through tea. It was an experience that was worth the expensive tea leaves they sell. Yes, it is expensive but the kindness and lessons are priceless.

Awesome tea shop, highly recommend for tea tasting and buying. They sell tea in big barrels, but happy to sell in small quantities. Had a great conversation with the lady boss, learned a lot about various teas. Very friendly relaxed owners, no pressure sales and most importantly they don’t rip off tourists. Honest prices and great tasting tea.

Beautiful tea shop where you can try different organic tea from Taiwan farms before buying. Price is around NTD 600-1200 per 150g. Owner is very knowledgeable. Service is good but could be better. They even have tax refund (cash) right in the store for purchase over 2K TWD.

Came here recently on two separate occasions. This is a family-owned business, where they roast the teas on the second floor! They’re very friendly and patient at introducing teas: including the differences and also in steeping for me to try. I’ve bought their Jasmine Tea, Sheng Puerh, Oriental Beauty Tea, TieGuanYin, and plenty of Alishan Teas here. I think the prices are reasonable and they have a variety of price points here depending on what you’re looking for. Highly recommend - will come back in the future for more teas.

This is my first Five-Star Review ever. Three years ago, a friend of mine, who knows that I am a devoted aficionado of Chinese Tea, had an opportunity to visit Taiwan. While there, she was introduced to the Shing Hwa Tea shop and bought some tea leaves to bring back to Maryland and give me. I was impressed. But I have been buying Chinese tea leaves for over 30 years now, in Taiwan, in Hong Kong and online. I know how easily the quality of the tea can vary from season to season and supplier to supplier. Here, at Shing Hwa Tea, I find myself a satisfied return customer after these three years and expect to continue to be so. The leaves have been of consistently high quality. They are whole, tightly rolled, clean and very low in stick quantity (see the photo, "Tea Leaves Dry.") Upon steeping, they unfurl to reveal mostly complete leaves, some tops and good color. The texture of the used leaves is slightly elastic; i.e., they have not been over-roasted (see "Used Leaves." This by the way, is another of my all-time favorite Oolong teas.) Shipping charges might be a little high, but my orders consistently arrive within a week, far faster than orders I have placed from importers located in Canada, on the West Coast of the U.S., and even here in Maryland. I also did some comparison shopping and concluded that, gram per gram the price for, let's say Da Yu Lin Tea (another outstanding leaf), was approximately HALF of what I had been paying elsewhere (don't tell them that...um). The overall expense is about level with purchasing teas of lesser quality elsewhere on-line. I hesitate to post this review, since It may stimulate more purchasing from Shing Hwa which, in turn, may result in a run on the stock and cause them to be sold out when I next need tea. But responsiveness, friendliness and excellence ought, I suppose, be acknowledged. Besides, I just made a large purchase that arrived in 5 days and some of which I am sipping now ;-)
