淡水廳同知曾曰瑛為避免爭端，立多處石碑於交界處，即為現石牌地名的由來。

週遭環境除有住宅區，銀行，有學校，有健康中心，商店林立，也緊臨振興醫院及榮民總醫院(榮總接駁車站牌也在附近)，生活機能不錯的大站，也是通往新北市淡水區，台北市士林區天母等地，也更是回台北市中心及內湖，松山的重要道路之一。
