A very quiet nice spot as opposed to the whole area being crowded with visitors, encountering only a few people in the one hour walk and stay. Allowing you to meditate, while facing the thousand year old tree, with virtually nobody around for quite a while.

Found at the end of the Shuishan trail. A few steps to get up to it after the small bridge.

Following the old railway track will lead you to the Old Shuishan station platform about 30 minutes walk leisurely. After passing through the wooden truss bridge you will reach the Shuishan Giant Tree by 10 minutes step climbing. It's a path less travelled by.

This 2700 year old tree is the largest in the Alishan recreation area. It looks amazing and magical. You can take the Shuishan trail next to the police station nearby Chaoping to reach here. The trail is an abandoned railway. It is an easy 1.5km walk to get there and you have to return on the same path.

Amazed by the tree (2700years old), not sure why they don't promote this tree so much as we found its quite difficult to find the route to see the tree. Easiest way is go to Alishan Police Office then can found the direction to the giant tree. Really worth to go as otw to giant tree also beautiful. Easy walk mostly flat area only few stairs at the end of the route to see the tree.

The trail is nice and quiet if you want to avoid the crowd after the sunrise. It's an easy and flat trail about 45 minutes round trip. We felt in a mystic and enchanted forest.

The trail is built along the former, now disused Shuishan branch. It's really enjoyable, easily walkable (total length around 1,6km or 1mi) and rewards you with a mysterious atmosphere during cloudy days and great view of the surrounding mountains during sunny days. Monkeys can be spotted along the trail, especially around the bridge and they tend to come quite close to humans, but they don't seem to be interested in them.
