Taipei American School This school is terrific! It is the best. It has the best staff and faculty members that are always so willing to help and are so supportive, they are always there to help. It has a great cafeteria that has so much variety of food that is always so neatly placed and has such variety from sweet to savory to healthy! Also, it has so many extras like a huge technology building that is all inclusive of all types of material. This building has about 4 floors of space to use and they have many amazing machines to help complete projects, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, etc. It is so amazing in general - from the teachers, to the great cafeteria foods for the students, to the amazing extras that are all included. If you are looking for a school in Taipei City, definitely check out Taipei American School. It’s an awesome school with plenty of resources. Many say it’s a money grabbing school but honestly, with all the courses open for students in high school, it is worth it. However, it’s only great until it comes to supporting student’s mental health and promoting a healthy school culture. Although they are constantly trying to raise awareness, we don’t see it reflected off of the administrations. The meetings they hold are constantly repeating the same things “get more sleep, how to get more sleep, be supportive, how to be supportive” but then the curriculum makes it impossible to do so?They tell us to not be toxic, but they unconsciously promote this type of behavior. It’s funny because I have never seen so many students with mental health issues in other schools, but the school, after being aware there are multiple suicidal students in school, did not make any significant changes! It’s almost like being suicidal is absolutely normal. They literally raised and formed this toxic culture. I hope future generations who attend this school won’t have to go through this because despite all that, it is a good school.

Many say it's become a money grabbing school. Many say it's deteriorated into a toxic playground. As a student, I can see how its facilities and opportunities make up for its cost. I can see how it's toxic but am not at all affected by the toxicity. The school tries to address these kind of problems that doesn't have much impact on the school or should I say are not actually important. Toxic competition = future bright and successful people. Without toxic competition, TAS wouldn't be a top school. Also, the course variety is overpowered and I'm enjoying the classes. Nevertheless, the school has a big problem: political freedom. You will be utterly and cancelled if you disagree with any of the school's ideologies, especially speaking up in any sort of public way. You will be shunned by many students if you support conservatism, except about half of the students will still be your friends. There are people currently in the school that are experiencing this and they are my friends. I hope the school realizes that this is a problem, and the true way to find peace and solve the political war is if people can understand each other and come to common ground.

I was only there for a weekend track meet, but the track and facilities were awesome. The staff that was there were all very helpful and knowledgable. The location is excellent also. I thought the kids acted very respectfully and they had a top notch track team!

The administration is not responsive to community needs. Not only do they cover up misconduct by teachers, they change rules to minimize parental influence on the board of directors and consolidate power within the administration. After the establishment of the Anti-Oppression Task Force, my children in the 4th grade were taught things like “white people invented slavery”, “police don’t like black people, so they shoot them”, and “the US government doesn’t want Asians in the country”. I have no problem with teaching about the evils of slavery and America’s history of racism, but virtually every lesson is geared towards it, no context is provided, and factual mistakes run rampant, supplanted instead by extreme opinions.

Tone deaf administration, great teachers (but sadly many, many are leaving for better schools), misguided emphasis on creating woke culture, while basic values and character traits are only given lip service. They believe they have a “branding” issue, but really they have a core values issue. This school needs a real change in leadership from the school board to the administration in order to create the school community that once existed. In the past I would strongly recommend this school, but I can no longer do so.

I'm one of the few people within the Class of 2027, and let me just say this, the school's pretty nice, but is INCREDIBLY costly, at ~38,000 USD tuition, it's essentially top of the line. The school theoretically has a much overall faster curriculum with regards to its mathematics department, as well as few others, which forces workload upon many of the students, including me. Most of the staff I've encountered are pretty positive and overall seems to appreciate their work, I'm unsure if this is the doing of their salary, but that's besides the point. Overall a pretty solid start within all departments, there seem to be a reasonable amount of job opportunities, and they're overall welcoming. The student environment is pretty rough, like your run of the mill school, most of the students are pretty rude sometimes, and I've overall heard about the controversy surrounding slurs, which is an oxymoron in regards to the school's prestigious reputation. I'd recommend this school as of right now, but hopefully my opinions won't stagnate as I progress.
