The school was founded in 1971 and its name is "Guangwu Technical College". In view of the needs of social changes and the rapid development of business, it is committed to establishing a business course. It was renamed "Guangwu Technical College" in the 1994 academic year. Due to its excellent performance in running a school, it was approved to be restructured into the "Guangwu Institute of Technology" in the 2000 academic year. The school was renamed "North Taiwan Institute of Science and Technology" in the 2004 academic year and "North Taiwan Institute of Science and Technology" in the 2006 academic year. It was approved by the Ministry of Education to be officially renamed "Taipei City University of Science and Technology" on February 1, 2012. The school environment has been renovated, and a new building will be planned in the future.
