Taipei Hero House

Chinese style breakfast. Walking distance to 西門町 and presidential palace. Rooms are okay, inexpensive. But attracting younger, noisier crowd. Beds are comfortable.

We had a small college mates gathering 2 years ago at this restaurant in 台北國軍英雄館（Taipei National Army Heroes Hall）, and this hall has been run by Friends of Armed Forces Association （中華民國軍人之友社）, the association was set up as a non-profit organization associated with Ministry of Defense （國防部）. The main lines of business for the hall were hotel and restaurant. I'm not sure if the hotel part is solely for the armed forces personnels and their dependents, but the restaurant part has been opened for average consumers like us. The restaurant is famous for the good dishes and the reasonable prices. The restaurant is located in an area that is near to Ximending（西門町, or spelled as Hsimenting sometimes）, usually people would choose this restaurant as a place for gathering on the basis of convenience. For the restaurant, regular customers were directed to the 2nd floor where there is a big hall, but there are suites on the 7th floor, where special guests will be treated. I learned that the President of ROC used to hold banquets to receive the generals of the armed forces in one of the grand shites We had an engagement to meet on the coming 10th of June, a regular gathering of about 15-16 persons every 2 months, and the person who’s in charge of this very occasion chose the suite that is said for the President to treat the generals. Unfortunately, the recent situation of Convid-19 pandemic ran wild, number of confirmed infection spiked, Taipei City Government had to issue a decree to ban any gathering over certain number of people indoors, covering a period starting from the 15th of May till the 28th, I would speculate that the restriction won’t be loosened when the 28th comes, if it does not get even more strict. We agree to make a final decision, go or no go, on the coming 1st of June. It is really a situation of hope against hope, I would think our hope could not be granted. 在二樓吉祥廳吃飯，價錢合理，同學吃的很開心。

Visited for the second time since the first last year. The last visit was due to its reputation for being maybe the least expensive breakfast buffet, but still edible in the city, NTD$100(about US$3.30.) They have since raised to $130 with a little less items. I would still recommend it and quite positive that one visit is all you need.

We had the breakfast buffet at the Hero House. It is very traditional and a good value for the price. A number of dishes were on offer, including braised pork, stir fry eggplant, congee, and more. I especially enjoyed their hot soy drink. I don't think it is advertised, but it's open to the public. We had local knowledge to point is there.

It's fine. It's just fine. It's slightly overpriced banquet food for the quality. Granted, I wasn't that hungry before I came here, but the food I had was fine. Not spectacular, just fine. My brother was bitter because he didn't understand why we were spending all this money when everything else in Taiwan is so reasonable, but you know...it was a good amount of food, they provided us (11 that turned into 15 people) with our own room that had its own bathroom in it. It's located in a convenient enough place. They were very accommodating with lowering the AC and our party that arrived later. The highlight of the meal for me was the little buns with pork skin in it. The sad, sad lowlight of the meal was the XLB. Earnestly, the worst I've ever had anywhere. It was mushy and the skin somehow crumbled (how?!?!?) in my mouth. They also...ran out of white rice an hour and a half into our meal. I don't know how that happens. But it happened.

The hotel like its restaurant is not a luxury one, but the location is very convenient for tourists because it's very close to Simon Ding one of the most fashionable places in Taipei.

The breakfast buffet selection was minimal with 5 or 6 dishes only, not really worth it's NT$130 tag. The soy milk was good though; wished they had coffee also.
