★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The trains were pretty interesting, and so was the heavy machinery. The tour included quite a bit about the plants though, which nearly put me to sleep. Worth going to for the photo opportunity.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's an interesting place to be. Especially if you are interested in railway. But it seems you have to have a resident card or a ROC ID card to register. Not friendly to foreigners. The tour only allows photography but not video with no explanation, what a bummer!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was my second visit here and it's great to see how this iconic establishment is transforming into a full scale museum. The fact that most of the areas are in their "original" condition just adds more to the authenticity of this place.
However the guided tours are not very carefully arranged as there is absolutely no time to browse anything for more than 1-2 minutes or take some decent pictures. During my second visit, we haven't even had the opportunity to see one of the last remaining GA18s, which is one of the rarest type ever produced by EMD. (Yeah, go to Miaoli if you wanna see one...)
I understand that the museum is still being renovated, I wouldn't allow people to roam freely just yet either, however this haste just makes it impossible to take a good look at anything. Maybe some supervised "free time", a 10-15 minutes stop would be nice at the important locations.
Someone mentioned here that one needs ARC or other ID to participate, which is not true, foreigners without any TW ID are also welcome.
