Taiwan Chinese Academy

I was a student at TCA for 6 weeks and attended both individual and group classes. From the moment I inquired about classes, the staff was very warm and helpful. I took an assessment class and was placed with teachers and a class that fit my level well. Over my time at TCA I worked with three different teachers, all of whom were very capable and energetic about teaching. Over the two years I've studied Chinese in different settings I've used a variety of books, and the texts TCA uses are by far my favorite. They include useful vocabulary, culture lessons, and lots of practice exercises. My teachers integrated listening, speaking, and writing into each lesson and offered a mix of audio and visual learning. The facilities were clean and quiet. If you're looking to study Chinese, I definitely recommend connecting with TCA to see if they have something that fits your needs.

The teachers at the school are relatively young but highly motivated. The classes offer a good guidance though the textbook “A Course in Contemporary Chinese”, though sometimes I wish they would more often teach something outside of the textbook "curriculum". The classes are relatively small, which offers a more friendly, enthusiastic and relaxed atmosphere to study. Overall, I highly recommend studying at TCA.

Highly recommended! As someone starting a second language a little later in life, this small school was an exceptional experience. Their courses are challenging yet accessible, their teachers are excellent/well-trained, and the staff very friendly and accommodating. I partook in a combination of private lessons and an "intensive" group class. I had three different instructors and was impressed with their flexibility and continuity. This school uses materials from Taiwan Normal University. They take an academic approach to their training and there is emphasis placed not only in speaking, but reading as well (which is much more important than I realized at first if you truly want to understand Mandarin.) If you take the Intensive course, be prepared for a challenging, yet rewarding, trial. The teachers do not pander to the students, yet work fairly with them to help them progress at their own pace (classes are very small which makes this possible.) At the end of the day, you don't get a "grade" for doing anything....your reward is being able to better speak/read Mandarin. And that is reward enough for me. I'm going back as soon as possible.

Great Class. I took weekend courses at TCA. They were great and my mandarin has improved so much. The company was also very understanding with working around CoVid and charging fair prices. Highly recommend!

I have had nothing but positive experiences here! I've been an evening class student at TCA for almost two years now. I love the textbook, size of the classes, and conversational style of the classes. I took Chinese all through college and my Mandarin has improved far more in two years at TCA than it did in those 4 years. Andy and the rest of the staff are amazing, accommodating, and extremely helpful! I have had 3 different teachers during my time at the school because of joining different classes based on my schedule, and I've loved all 3! They have all gone above and beyond to help me learn, and have been extremely friendly and kind. Highly recommend.

I have been attending TCA's courses for the last six months and I have stayed because of the great experience I have had. Comparing to other schools, the atmosphere here is quite relax and the teachers nurture your learning by bringing fresh content and exercises related to the course book. Because I am busy during working time, the provided class time fits anyone wondering for a suitable Mandarin course. In addition, the school's facilities are well maintained and provide a perfect setting. I highly recommend this school.

I had a great and productive time during my study at TCA academy. Andy was very efficient in providing the information before my arrival, recommended a decent place to live in - not far from school. I have been a total beginner in Mandarin, but after 12 weeks of study I have gained a decent and solid basis of this language, which I can confidently build upon. I have had 3 teachers during my stay and all of them were very professional and always well prepared. In addition to a group lessons of intensive class (4 hours a day) I had also had several one on one sessions, in which I had a chance to practice my verbal skills more in depth. With schoolmates from other intensive classes we have created a good group and we organised and done together some hikes and other activities on this beautiful island - this definitely enhanced my time and study. Teachers were very approachable and very nice. I have spent the longest time in the group with Wang Yi Laoshi - she was great in explaining the grammar and alternating the activities as well. All components of the language acquisition were covered in depth - reading, listening, speaking as well as writing (typing). I would recommend to spent more time on PinYin at the beginning, because the first term after 4 weeks we have rushed through the material of the last chapter (#.7) and 15 minutes after the finishing the material we have had a test. Other than that, I would wholeheartedly recommend this language academy to anyone who would like to study or to improve Mandarin skills. Everyone wishing to try it out needs to remember that as everything we want to master, it requires our full attention and focus. Skipping one or two days of studying new characters will lead to delay and problems in comprehension of the language as after chapter 7 pinyin is dropped and texts are provided only in Chinese characters. I do hope my Mandarin will keep improving and that in a few months I will be able to visit Taiwan again and meet up with my former teachers, while holding some conversation in Chinese :)

TCA classes are awesome, and the teachers there are extremely hard-working, knowledgeable, and patient. They prepare multiple PPTs and even games and such for improving our Chinese. They offer evening classes starting at 7, which is perfect for people like me with full-time jobs. I've had 1 great year of immense fun and learning; my classmates are super cool too. When we had to move to online classes, our teacher (Lily) even used Zoom features to make us continue to play Chinese character-based games, which was super fun and impressive.
