★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 相傳菁桐是在乾隆年間由泉州人李大青率先開墾的地區;另一說法則是從前此地多為野生菁桐樹,因而得名。
從台北方向來,菁桐是平溪鐵道的最後一站,也曾在平溪煤礦中扮演龍頭老大的角色,但是目前的沒落,卻讓它比不上平溪、十分。
但是,2001年全台民眾票選,二十世紀內台灣最重要的100大歷史建築,菁桐卻有三項入選。太子賓館(應為臺陽礦業公司平溪招待所)(排名第51)、菁桐火車站(第78名)、洗煤場(第82名),古蹟、寧靜的山城小鎮氣氛,再加上車站、太子賓館和「北海道」宿舍群,所散發出來的濃濃日本風,讓菁桐多了份寧靜與安適。
According to legend, Jingtong was the area that was first opened by Quanzhou Li Daqing during the Qianlong period; another saying that it was mostly wild Jingtong tree in the past, hence the name.
From the direction of Taipei, Jingtong is the last stop of Pingxi Railway. It also played the role of leader in Pingxi Coal Mine, but the current decline has made it less than Pingxi.
However, in 2001, the Taiwanese people voted, and in the 20th century, Taiwan’s most important 100 historical buildings, Jingtong, were selected. Prince Hotel (should be Taiyang Mining Company Pingxi Guest House) (ranked 51st), Jingtong Railway Station (78th), coal washing plant (82nd), historic site, quiet mountain town atmosphere, plus station The Japanese style of the Prince Hotel and the "Hokkaido" dormitory group exudes a sense of tranquility and comfort.
