巫里岸地名源自移墾期，巫里岸於蚊仔坑之西，雞母嶺之東，地名一說來自平埔巴賽族語，另一說為嘉慶時漳州巫姓開闢，但開闢未成全家死亡，後來吳姓來此為紀念之，乃取此地名。

貢寮庄轄域內分為貢寮、大石壁坑、長潭、枋腳、下雙溪、遠望坑、田寮洋、澳底、丹裡、撈洞、社裡、鷄母嶺十二個大字。
鷄母嶺大字下有「鷄母嶺」、「土地公嶺」、「巫里岸」小字名。
