The predecessor of the Taiwan Theological Research Institute was the Taiwan Theological Seminary, which was founded by the first evangelical teacher of the Canadian Presbyterian Church, Dr. George Leslie Mackay, D.D., 1844-1901. He began to preach in Tamsui in 1872, selected students from the believers, and nurtured them to become ministers. In the first ten years of the priest's evangelism, the class was also taught for students. This period was called "Peripatetic College". In 1882, the "School of Science" (now known as the "Oxford School", located on the campus of the University of Truth) was completed and was the first school building of the College. In 1901, Rev. William Gauld took over as Dean, and at the same time founded the Central Committee and perfected the church administration system. 1907 Theological Seminary established the school year system. In 1914, the school building moved to Taipei Shuanglian. In 1922, the school was accredited according to the "Private School Rules" promulgated by the Governor's Office and officially incorporated into the management of the education system. The school officially entered the "Taipei School of the Gods". In 1947, Rev. James Dickson was the dean of the school. He was committed to improving the quality of students and establishing a degree-granting system, and began the "undergraduate" academic system. In 1948, it was renamed "Taiwan Theological Seminary". In 1956, the seminary moved from the double-joined school to the current site of Lingtou. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in B.D. from 1959 and a three-year M.Div. Master of Science degree in 1974. Although the Taiwan Theological Seminary is one of the schools with a long history and the best performance, the Ministry of Education does not recognize the degree awarded by the University. It was not until 2004 that the Legislative Yuan amended the Private Schools Act to include the provisions of the "Religious Institute". In order to make theological education among the higher education recognized by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan Theological Seminary has a normal communication platform with other higher education institutions, and allows graduates to be recognized after graduation, which can be more comprehensive at home and abroad. All religious research institutes and seminaries are in line. As a result, the Taiwan Theological Seminary began to study countermeasures. In 2010, the school established the "Tai Shen School Foundation Corporation" to prepare for the establishment of schools. On June 15, 2015, the "Taiwan Theological Research Institute" was approved to register and began enrolling students in the 2016 school year. The nearly 145 years of theological education of the school has entered a new era. At the same time, the school also hopes that by investigating, this precious theological education resource can be shared not only by the Presbyterian Church but by all Christian denominations.
