The 726-meter-long No. 2 tunnel to the south of Shengxing Station was completed in 1905 and rebuilt into a cement structure after being damaged by an earthquake in 1935. At the entrance of the cave stood two huge "no entry" red cards. If the tunnel is relatively straight, 700 meters is not too long. You can see the light at the other end from one end. Why can't you see it here? Because the tunnel is built on a slope, the north is high and the south is low. It is really hard work to repair the railway in the mountains!

The tunnel is currently banned, please do not break into it without permission. If you have time, you may wish to walk along the rails that have been deactivated to experience the memory of your predecessors.

The "Kaitian Tunnel" is located next to the Miaoli Shengxing Station, and the word "Kaitian" inscribed by Goto Shinhei in the 37th year of the Meiji era stands above the tunnel entrance! The total length is 726 meters. It was completed in the 38th year of the Meiji era (1905 AD). "Kaderu Taro" was the governor of Taiwan, and the previous governor was "Nogi Nobu". Because Kotaro Taro was also Japan’s "Army Minister", "Army Minister", "Ministry of Education", and "Manchurian Army Chief of Staff" to lead the "Japanese-Russian War", the time spent in Taiwan was extremely short. At this time, the actual person in power in Taiwan was the Director of Civil Affairs "Goto Shinpei." In the early days of the Japanese rule, Taiwan had to accept the budgetary subsidies compiled by the Japanese central government every year, which was a big burden on Japan’s finances at that time, which caused dissatisfaction among the Japanese people, and even there were various sounds of abandonment of Taiwan. The director later made Taiwan’s finances gradually autonomous and no longer receive subsidies from the Japanese central government. "Goto Shinpei" vigorously plans to build Taiwan's highways, railways, reservoirs, water supply, and sugar manufacturing technology, especially the "sewage project" that is considered invisible by political figures in Taiwan today. Under his leadership, Taipei's "sewage coverage" belongs to No. 1 in Asia, compared to Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, any city in Japan has a higher sewer coverage rate! "Goto Shinpei" and the completion of the "Opening of the Tunnel" in the year, conducted the first census in Taiwan's history, and learned that the total population of Taiwan is 3.039 million (excluding "Shengfan"). Although Goto Shinping has been in Taiwan for only 14 years, it has laid a solid foundation for Taiwan's infrastructure and modernization projects. Although the entrance of the tunnel was marked "No Entry", driven by curiosity, he still couldn't help but bring up the courage to go black and walk back and forth for about 40 minutes. From time to time, there were water springs in the tunnel.

Seven years ago, when there was no railbike, walking in the old damp tunnel felt like an expedition, but unfortunately it is now impassable because of the bicycle track. I don’t support railway bicycles. I hope this section of the railway can be restored to its original appearance in history and open to pedestrians. Of course, the old mountain line will be better if it can be driven again.

Part II: I finally got on the small train with the tour group. Because there were too many participants, we could only choose to take Section A, starting from Shengxing Station to the Longteng Broken Bridge. It was really happy like a child, especially when the train passed through the cave. It really feels great, but after the train passes through the cave, the scenery is relatively ordinary, but when we get to the Longteng Broken Bridge, the scenery is beautiful, especially if you can stop and walk around, you can see the Longteng Broken Bridge from a close distance. Time is limited, and you will have to take the original car to go back soon, so don't forget your car number when you get off the bus, because there is still a return trip! I hope to have the opportunity to try the C segment next time!
