因應南迴鐵路電氣化及未來城際電聯車即將引進，台鐵於2021年6月28日將臺東機務分段升等為臺東機務段，從原本隸屬花蓮機務段獨立出來，作為未來南迴鐵路電聯車維修基地。今日上午台鐵杜微局長親自視察臺東機務段，視察新建的維修廠房及維修設備，宣示臺東機務段將成為嶄新的維修基地。
臺東機務分段介紹：
臺東機務分段設立於1992年，當時為了配合南迴鐵路通車，因此設立作為柴聯車和客車的維修基地。目前臺東機務段配屬R100型柴電機車20輛（R120~130；132~139；R131停用待報廢除籍）、自動門莒光號客車10500系26輛、折疊門莒光號客車10000系25輛、兩鐵專用莒光號客車7輛、郵政行李車3輛、柴聯自強號DR2900 / 3000系27組81輛等，未來待EMU900型和EMU3000型全數交車後，會配屬EMU500型和EMU3000型，讓臺東機務段成為東部的電聯車維修大本營

In response to the electrification of the Nanhui Railway and the imminent introduction of inter-city telecommunication trains in the future, Taiwan Railway upgraded its Taitung Locomotive Depot to Taitung Locomotive Depot on June 28, 2021. Back to the railway electric train maintenance base. This morning, Taiwan Railway Commissioner Du Wei personally inspected the Taitung Locomotive Depot and inspected the newly built maintenance plant and maintenance equipment, declaring that the Taitung Locomotive Depot will become a brand new maintenance base.
Taitung Locomotive Section Introduction:
The Taitung Locomotive Section was established in 1992. At that time, in order to cope with the opening of the Nanhui Railway, it was set up as a maintenance base for diesel combined vehicles and passenger cars. At present, Taitung Locomotive Depot is equipped with 20 R100 diesel-electric locomotives (R120~130; 132~139; R131 will be deactivated and pending revocation), 26 automatic door Juguang bus 10500 series, and folding door Juguang bus 10000 series 25 vehicles, 7 special Juguang buses for the two railways, 3 postal luggage carts, and 81 vehicles in 27 groups of the Chailian Ziqiang DR2900/3000 series. In the future, after the EMU900 and EMU3000 are delivered, they will be equipped with EMU500. And EMU3000, making Taitung Locomotive Depot a base camp for the maintenance of electric trains in the east

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2015/11/28參加銀漾白鐵─鐵協光華專列活動前往台東車站，隔日順道參訪台東機務分段。跟花蓮機務段一樣，真的是臺鐵東部地區車輛維修的大本營!
2015/11/28 Participated in the Yinyang White Iron-Tiexie Guanghua Special Train to Taitung Station, and visited Taitung Machinery Section by the next day. Just like the Hualien locomotive depot, it is really the base for vehicle maintenance in the eastern part of the Taiwan Railway!
