Wankou Hotel

We expected something wrecked down as usually in these kind of locations but Wankou Hotel was nice. Clean, small but cozy and everything you need is there. No smell and nice helping people. I had the impression it was really one of the better hotels in Alishan.

Reception is rude and clearly unwilling to do extra to make our stay pleasant. We asked whether we can enjoy our breakfast the morning after the stipulated date and the answer was a very quick no. But when we inquiry with the restaurant directly the answer was a friendly yes. She appears very irritated throughout. The driver who fetched us was very friendly and even helped us to carry our luggages to our room on upper floor. The room is clean with a nice balcony. But very small, hardly any space to move after luggages. Hot thermos for hot water provided, however need to go to level 1 to get hot water. Hair dryer is the old school type, good if no other choice but takes a long time to dry anything. Blanket and heater pad provided. Toiletries and towel provided. Hot water working well. Toilet is clean. Cheapest place around the strip area. Bed size smaller than usual.

Located at the hotel district of Alishan Recreation Area. It is near a stairway that requires a short climb to go to the shopping area. Hotel staff are hospitable and passionate. Despite being looked like shophouse hotels, lobby is clean, rooms are clean and tidy with full shower amenities. Enjoyed the stay there.

Stay comes with vegetarian options for breakfast (place is a short walk from the hotel). The receptionist gives good walking trail recommendation around the park. We were here during spring and it gets 9c cold, the warm mattress helps a lot. I didn't have any problem with the hot water in the bathroom, just need to wait for a while. However, would recommend to ask if there's shuttle provided from the Alishan bus station. It would seem like a short walk from the map, but it's an uphill then downhill walk. Added with the hassle of the trolley luggage. (we did this ?)

The good: Free shuttle is provided between bus station to/fro the hotel. Hot and warm water dispenser on every floor. Very thick and warm blankets provided. They provide heat packs for use, which was extremely useful especially at night. The bad: Noise proofing for the room is almost non-existent. I could hear every word spoken by the neighbours. They might have spoken too loudly, but I also heard the water dispenser everytime some used it (just outside the room). There is no lift in the hotel. Breakfast is provided, but it is a far walk from the Hotel to the restaurant. Guess this makes it more efficient for the businesses around Alishan.

A fantastic hotel with superb customer service. Clean rooms with electrically heated mattresses. The inclusive breakfast at a nearby restaurant was delicious! Very authentic Taiwanese breakfast! Highly recommended for the great staff, room, location, and breakfast.

The hotel may be old but it's clean and has all the basic necessities, sufficient for a short stay when visiting Alishan. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, and gave us plenty suggestions on things to do and places to visit around the area. They also provide free shuttle service to the bus station. Would recommend and will definitely stay here again.
