Historyedit The ancient name of this area is "Kai Zai Liao". "Kai Zai" is the Chinese translation of "Kona" in Ketagalan Basai in northern Taiwan. The original meaning is "traps" for catching wild beasts. In order to wait for the catching of mountain beasts, set up near the trap. The Caoliao in China is called "Kai Ziliao". This area was a wilderness in ancient times, where the Basai people lived and hunted. It was called "Ki-vanow-an" at that time. In 1626, the Spanish navy arrived in Taiwan for the first time and sailed to the area of ​​San Diao Jiao today. It landed here. It was named after the Spanish saint Santiago (Santiago) as the headland on which it landed. The now known San Diao Jiao is now called "Santiago". "San Diego" was transliterated. However, under the Spanish rule of the entire San Diao region, the Basai people do not call their living area "San Diao Society" but "Kivanowan" (Kivano Bay). At that time, the Spaniards established a province in the area dominated by Gongliao District as "Turoboan" (Turoboan). After the Han forces entered this area, the name "Kivanowan" no longer existed, but the name "Sandiao" was retained and used as the general term for the entire region. In the ninth year of the Taisho era (1920), the reform of the local government system was implemented, and the "Gangzailiao District" was simplified and changed to Gongliao Village. After the end of the war in 1945, it was renamed Gongliao Township. On December 25, 2010, after Taipei County was upgraded to New Taipei City, Gongliao Township was renamed Gongliao District.
