★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unable to even reach the trailhead. Scooting up to the trailhead, owners let their dogs out to patrol and ward off visitors. Dogs snarling and barking (much more than normal wild Taiwanese dogs trust me). Scared my wife so much we had to turn a around--we were on scooters.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very steep hiking trail that ends at a nice rest area. The forest there is just amazing! There are also a lot of other nice trails leaving from the rest area to other parts of the shimen reservoir Area, so longer hiking tours are possible. Downside: very few signs or Maps on the trail, no food or water, too, adventurial spirit required.
