★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The locals who brought me to Dajia Zhenlan Temple recommended the famous Dajia butter pastries here (NT$32-35 for single pastries, slight discount on boxes of larger quantities). I also happened to be visiting during the time around Mazu’s birthday (March to April each year) when they sell Mazu pastries (flaky pastry stuffed with taro and longan paste and mochi, NT$90 for a pack of 2, NT$260 for a pack of 6 with a NT$10 discount for adding them on LINE) temporarily. They were very generous with their samples of butter pastries, pineapple shortcakes, Mazu pastries, and shaqima. Cash only!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Some of the best “sun cakes” and other pastries in Taichung AND Taiwan. They make traditional flavors along with other seasonal and inventive versions. They offer free samples. It was packed with enthusiastic customers on the Saturday morning that we visited.
