Zhongxiao Road Night Market - South District

忠孝路觀光夜市 / zhong xiao lu guan guang ye shi in English we call Zhongxiao Road Night Market is a one long road in Taichung, Taiwan where the are a lot of food stall and store in the night. This night market only provides variant of food, you can't find fashion item, souvenir, etc here. The night market is quite simple where it is consisting of one road with food stalls and stores in our left and right site. Since car and motorycle can pass this road, we need to be careful when walking and keep noticing the traffic light. At this night market, I had my drink at 50 岚 / 50 lan (for more detail, you could read my older post about 50 lan at Zhongxiao Road Night Market). And also for dinner, based on the recommendation from my sister's friend who studies in Taichung, we eat something that is quite unique for us. Firstly, we could choose freely the topping that is similar in making hotpot / shabu-shabu, such as meat, meatball, sausage, noodle, beehon, and many more. Then, it will be cooked in stir-frying style with its sweet sauce. Tastes good! One of the recommended food to try when you are in Taiwan ?

Food was good but I find it quite dangerous to navigate through the market as cars and pedestrians share the same path. Have to be very careful when walking. I recommend FengJia market instead.

Have quite a few vegetarian good stall. I like the BBQ vegetables the most. It is a straight road night market.

My favorite night market in Taiwan. Beside delicious food, I love that it is not overly crowded like Shilin or Feng Chia NMs and the shop owners are very nice and patient with us foreigners. About 10 mins walking from Taichung train station.

Lots of food... There are many shops selling drinks. One more ...a good point at this street is we can find many stalls offering vegetarian food.

So many local food here and pricing is extremely affordable. If you are adventurous, you can eat the snacks and food from the long stretch of stalls along the road. We stopped by to eat the cheapest "siow long pau" from a stall that started 30 years ago. It's not popular with tourist here, can see many local buying food from the stalls. Cleanliness may not up to usual standard but since so many locals are still patronizing this place, it should be alright. A nice place to blend into the people of TaiChung lifestyle and enjoying the local foods, especially during the winter cold night.

Another great place to find local food in Taichung such as fried chicken and watermelon juice. Usually crowded at night. Most of the stalls close after 1030 so you might want to come here not too late at night.
