 The big banyan tree is the landmark of the mountain climbing entrance at the northern end of the Caoling Ancient Road. Here, you can rest and play in the water near the river. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from Yuanwangkeng Water Park.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 草嶺古道北入口，位於遠望坑街上，從“遠望坑口公車站”(見相關條目評價)步行35分鐘2.5公里可以到達此地，途中經過“遠望坑親水公園”(見相關條目評價)，是非常讚的溪邊步道公園，不可放過。
在遠望坑親水公園到草嶺古道口(大榕樹)途中經過“跌死馬橋”，其實就是個窄窄的現代水泥橋，我們經過根本沒發現這就是聞名的跌死馬橋，過了看地圖才知道跌死馬橋被忽略了。
草嶺古道從大榕樹算是正式開始，一路向上，而我們乘F835公車在遠望坑口公車站下來，海拔不過幾米而已，從遠望坑口公車站到大榕樹草嶺古道入口，基本沒有很大的上坡路。
自駕可以把車停在遠望坑親水公園，有免費停車場，遊覽過親水公園以後步行十五分鐘就可以到達這裡，開始草嶺古道的攀登了。
The north entrance of Caoling Ancient Road is located on Yuanwangkeng Street. It can be reached by walking 35 minutes and 2.5 kilometers from "Yuanwangkengkou Bus Station" (see the evaluation of related items). A very good creekside trail park, not to be missed.
On the way from Yuanwangkeng Water Park to Caoling Gudaokou (Big Banyan Tree), we passed the "Diadie Horse Bridge", which is actually a narrow modern cement bridge. We didn't find it at all. This is the famous Die Ma Bridge. Knowing that the dead horse bridge was ignored.
The Caoling Ancient Road officially started from Darongshu, and it went all the way up. We took the F835 bus and got off at the Yuanwangkengkou bus stop. The altitude was only a few meters.
By car, you can park your car at Yuanwangkeng Water Park. There is free parking lot. After visiting the water park, you can walk for 15 minutes to reach here and start the climbing of the Caoling Ancient Road.
