相傳是清乾隆51年（西元1786年）間，相傳與「林爽文事件」有關，這些先民也被稱為「大墓公」。
據傳該地是地理絕佳的「黑狗穴」風水寶地，1994年廟方遂立了一座黑狗狗雙眼炯炯有神，不同部位有不同意義：「摸狗嘴，大富大貴。摸狗卵，賺千萬。摸狗卵芭，緊做阿爸。摸狗尾，賺傢伙。鑽狗孔，嫁好尪。（台語）」
