三官大帝，指的是掌管天地水三界的「三官」之神：「天官」、「地官」和「水官」，閩南語俗稱「三界公」，客家話稱為「三界爺」，是崇高的神祇；有所謂：天官賜福、地官赦罪、水官解厄。中國上古就有祭天、祭地和祭水的禮儀。
道教中認為天官大帝為堯，地官大帝為舜，水官大帝為禹。
東漢時，張道陵創立天師道，就以祭祀天地水三官，上三官手書作為道教徒請禱治病的方法。
天官為玄都元陽一品。居紫微宮中。部三十六曹。主宰眾生善惡之籍。致諸仙升降之司。號曰上元九※賜福天官。曜靈元陽大帝。紫微帝君。
地官大帝為中元地官。青靈洞陽二品。居北都宮中。部四十二曹。主宰三界。號曰中元七※赦罪地官。洞靈清虛大帝。青靈帝君。
