The annual rainfall here is approximately 1,000 mm. Many small tributaries flow northeast through the woods and then into the Willamette River via pipe passes or culverts under the U.S. National Highway 30 at the edge of the park. One of the Balch Creeks is home to salmon, while the other Miller Creek is home to marine species including salmon. The threats to the park include overuse, urban transport, invasion and development, invasion of alien animals and plants, and lack of maintenance funds. There have also been occasional serious crimes in the park. Other minor crimes are more common.
