Wujie is a history that is known to all people, but it is a practical and profound history of colonization.

Early this morning (2019/5), ride a bike to the Rimaru breakfast shop next to the Erjie Zhongxing Cultural and Creative Park, and then ride through the country road in the village opposite, passing this [殉 Monument], the appearance of the stone monument looks like a Japanese The architectural style of the era shrine, after searching the Internet [Wikipedia], I know that the full name of the [professional monument] is [Erjie Paper Factory Prefectural Monument], which commemorates the Taiwan and Japanese employees who died in 1936. During the Japanese rule in Taiwan, the Erjie Paper Mill was the largest paper mill in Southeast Asia. At that time, the name was "Taiwan Xingye Paper Co., Ltd.".
On August 24, 1936, the paper mill's smelting furnace dried up and lost water. The explosion caused excessive pressure, killing 13 employees in the plant, including 7 Japanese employees and 6 Taiwanese. In 1938, a death stele was set up in Shangsi Village, Wujie Township, 300 meters away from the accident site, engraved with the names and places of residence of the victims. In the post-war period, "Xingye Paper Co., Ltd." was accepted by the government, changed to public, and renamed "Zhongxing Paper Co., Ltd.", and the Chinese Yuan Purdue was held regularly every July in the Chinese calendar.
In 2000, "Zhongxing Paper Co., Ltd." was disbanded from the private sector. Later, the Zhongxing Paper Mill ended its operation and changed to the current "Zhongxing Cultural and Creative Park." It's just the same, the surrounding environment looks a bit lonely and desolate.
