★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First of all, the hygiene is not quite on the standard. The restroom has a funny smell and there’s a malfunction faucet for some weird purpose. Second, the cooks don’t wear any masks or hats to cover their face while preparing food for customers. Third, they do have AC line in the ceiling, however they still adapt air cooler in the room ( we barely able to have a decent conversation since the wind is too strong). Last but not least, they use Spotify free to play muzak, and come on man, the price is charge way more than premium a month. Service and food? Take a second thought is recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The service was great, and the soup (free) was terrific. The renovations are modern, and the seatings are nice.
However, the freshness of the food is fresh, but not top-notch fresh, as in it gets a passing mark, but I'm not sure if it beats right-out-of-the-ocean type freshness, again, I'm being fastidious, but that's what I had in mind for their price-range, at around 300twd for a rice with raw fish.
As for the rice, it wasn't markedly great, either not cold enough, or not hot enough, or in general just didn't have vinegar in it? I'm not sure.
As for the side dishes, it was a bit on the plain side, for their target audience. For improvement, I'd like to see fresher raw fish (already better than average, but still there's room) and other improvements in the food the next time I go.

I came here for dinner and had the regular Kaisen don. The rice to seafood ratio was very generous and the bonus miso soup better than your regular diy at home fare. The store itself is very small with bar seating and small 2-3 person tables. An English menu option would be even better.
Update: had the aburi don this time, was spot on!
Price point: 250-1500nt
Ambience: 5?(it's a cosy place but well decorated with friendly staff)
Food: 5? (best Japanese I've had in Taiwan)
Value: 5?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Owner seems very nice. Good food and good quality. The sashimi couldve been colder. Be prepared that there arw limited seating and the seating thats there are rather small. Overall i would recommend this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We ordered the 12 piece and 16 piece nigiri set, it was delicious, great and big portion of seafood miso soup. Fresh wasabi, complementary tea. Hidden gem in Taichung! Very friendly staff :) will definitely come back.
