菜瓜寮建順宮主祀張吳二位媽祖,原為明嘉靖年間,福建泉州府吳家莊姑嫂一家,潛學佛理,修得正果,神
靈顯化,極受莊民崇拜,並在泉州建姑嫂塔留念,至今四百餘年。明萬曆年間,居民避瘟,漳泉居民奉請金身來台,定居十七分寮即今之西岐里菜瓜寮,開墾安居,庇佑地方。
斗南菜瓜寮建順宮張吳二位媽祖史蹟
張媽祖姓張名蘭,於西元1502年明朝弘治十四年正月十五日誕生於福建省南江縣張家村,並於西元1522年明朝嘉靖元年出閣於泉州府吳家莊,吳氏為媳。吳媽祖姓吳名秀梅,於西元1506年明朝正德元年三月二十九日誕生於福建省泉州府吳家莊,與張媽祖為姑嫂一家。姑嫂二人平日敦親睦鄰,敬孝尊長,潛學佛理,修心養性,頗具佛緣,屢得先佛指點迷津,修得正果。
西元1560年明朝嘉靖三十八年八月初三日,天空忽然烏雲密佈,狂風大作,適逢姑嫂二人正在田間工作,為躲避風雨,遂躲入附近一棵百年老榕樹幹洞內,剎那間樹洞合閉,因此姑嫂二人同時得道升天,一瞬間雲開天青,經過幾年後,二位姑嫂多次托夢給莊民,是謂她二人已受先佛引渡佛界修成正果。
從此以後,姑嫂二人神靈顯化,庇佑泉州一帶居民,安居樂業,極受莊民崇拜,便商議將二位姑嫂塑雕金身,稱謂張吳二位媽祖,並在泉州建立一座紀念塔名為姑嫂塔作為留念。至今經過四百餘年此座姑嫂塔仍屹立於泉州地區。
西元1607年明朝萬曆三十四年唐山一帶發瘟疫,當地居民為逃逸瘟疫,當中有十七人帶著家眷並奉請張吳二位媽祖金身來台,安居開墾耕耘,於斗南北邊一帶安居,自稱十七份寮,即現今所稱「菜瓜寮」。

Wu Mazu, whose surname was Wu, was named Xiumei. She was born in Wujiazhuang, Quanzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province on March 29, the first year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty in 1506. She and Zhang Mazu were aunts and family. The two aunts and sisters-in-law are close to neighbors, respect filial piety and respect, learn Buddhism, cultivate the mind and cultivate nature, and have a good relationship with the Buddha.
On August 3rd of the 38th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty in 1560, the sky suddenly covered with dark clouds and strong winds. It happened that the two aunts and sisters were working in the fields. To avoid the wind and rain, they hid in the trunk of a century-old banyan tree nearby. The tree cave closed, so the two aunts were able to ascend to heaven at the same time, and the sky was cleared in an instant. After a few years, the two aunts entrusted their dreams to Zhuangmin many times, saying that they had been extradited to the Buddhist world by the first Buddha. Zhengguo.
Since then, the gods of the two aunts and sisters have manifested to protect the residents of Quanzhou, live and work in peace and contentment, and are highly worshipped by the villagers, so they negotiated to make the two aunts in gold and call them Zhang and Wu Mazu, and build a memorial tower in Quanzhou. Aunt Tower as a souvenir. After more than four hundred years, this sister-in-law tower still stands in Quanzhou area.
In 1607, the plague occurred in Tangshan in the thirty-fourth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. The local residents escaped from the plague. Seventeen of them brought their families and invited two mazus, Zhang and Wu, to come to Taiwan to settle down and cultivate and cultivate. Settle in the area, claiming to be 17 Fenliao, which is now called "Caigualiao".
