Association History In order to practice the concept of caring for the society and serving polio patients, Tainan Pastor Huang Decheng has been focusing on the rehabilitation of polio patients since 1949. In conjunction with Tainan Hospital and several rehabilitation specialists, they will perform monthly check-ups and corrections, as well as water rehabilitation and swimming training, so as to prevent polio patients from getting worse. From August 1st to 5th, 1966, the Tainan YMCA held a five-day "Friends and Disabled Activity Camp" at Tainan Theological Seminary. The students with disabilities who participated were kindly cared and encouraged by the staff. I have a deeper feeling and understanding of the future of the surrounding environment. So under the catalysis of friendship, and through the active guidance of the Tainan YMCA, on August 20, 66, a society with correct goals and objectives was born, and the nation’s first society entirely dedicated to students and youths with disabilities was born. It is the "Ziguang Society." The purpose at that time was: "To connect friendship, encourage each other, display the spirit of friendship, and achieve self-reliance and self-reliance, and then serve the community as the goal." After two decades of mutual support, Ciguang Club has also developed from a pure student club to a large comprehensive club including wheelchair tennis team, swimming team, chorus, croquet team, etc. due to different needs. The role of the members has also changed from students. For the young people of society, beginning to bear the responsibility of life and the burden of the family, the Ciguang Society has been unable to meet the more urgent needs of its members. Therefore, in order to continue their mission, the polio members who benefited that year, with the heart of giving back to the society, in November of the Republic of China, approved the case with the Tainan City Government Social Bureau and officially transformed into a "Corporate Legal Person Tainan" The City Ciguang Disability Association" was renamed as the "Tainan Ciguang Disability Association" in 1999. The network links social welfare, related professionals and other resources to provide more complete services for disabled friends.
