《讚佛偈》的因緣: 過去久遠,有佛名弗沙。時有二菩薩:一名釋迦牟尼,一名彌勒。 弗沙佛欲觀釋迦牟尼菩薩心純淑未?即觀見之,知其心未純淑,而諸弟子心皆純淑。又彌勒菩薩心已純淑,而弟子未純淑。 是時,弗沙佛如是思惟:「一人之心易可速化,眾人之心,難可疾治。」 如是思惟竟,弗沙佛欲使釋迦牟尼菩薩疾得成佛,上雪山上,於寶窟中入火定。 是時,釋迦牟尼菩薩作外道仙人,上山採藥。見弗沙佛坐寶窟中,入火定,放光明。 見已,心歡喜信敬,翹一腳立,叉手向佛,一心而觀,目未曾眴,七日七夜,以一偈讚佛: 「天上天下無如佛,十方世界亦無比,世界所有我盡見,一切無有如佛者!」 七日七夜諦觀世尊,目未曾眴,超越九劫,於九十一劫中得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。 ------------------------------------------------ 白話淺釋: 久遠劫前,娑婆世界的教主名「弗沙佛」。當時,釋迦牟尼是一位尚未成佛的外道仙人,因慈悲愍念眾生,又名為「菩薩」;與他同時的還有彌勒菩薩。弗沙佛為了度化二人,入甚深禪定觀察因緣,發現釋迦牟尼菩薩的心還未純熟,雖然慈悲但慧解、觀行之力仍嫌不足,而與他有緣的眾生們,心性皆已成熟堪受法益;相反地,彌勒菩薩心已純熟,但他的弟子們得度因緣卻多未成熟。 弗沙佛決定先助釋迦牟尼菩薩一臂之力,因為一人的心容易度化,若是眾人之心,便難以在短時間內同時轉變。於是弗沙佛來到釋迦牟尼菩薩採藥的雪山上,進入一個山窟中入火定,全身放大光明,遍耀十方。釋迦牟尼菩薩循著不可思議的光芒來到洞口,一見異象心大歡喜,歎未曾有,不覺雙手合十,一腳獨立,叉手向佛目不暫捨,虔誠吟詠著:「天上天下無如佛,十方世界亦無比;世間所有我盡見,一切無有如佛者。」七日七夜不曾餘覺餘思,亦不曾閤眼,精進的力量超越時間、空間,瞬間的功德,令本應百劫後成佛的釋迦牟尼菩薩,提早了九劫成就佛道。 釋迦牟尼菩薩在人壽平均八十歲的世間示現成佛,智慧高遠無有出其右者,皆因過去種下「一偈讚佛」的勝緣;其七日七夜中雖無他偈,功德卻勝多偈,貴在心思純一不雜,不在多言。再者,釋迦牟尼菩薩生生世世都將眾生置於自己之前,饒益他人的心多過利己,由於發心不可思議,而早彌勒菩薩九劫成佛。 典故摘自:《大智度論.卷四》

Thinking like this, Fosha Buddha wants to make Sakyamuni Bodhisattva attain Buddhahood quickly, go up a snowy mountain, and enter the fire concentration in the treasure cave. At that time, Shakyamuni Bodhisattva, as a foreigner, went up the mountain to collect medicine. See Phusha Buddha sitting in the treasure cave, entering the fire, and emitting light. Seeing it, rejoicing, believing and respecting, standing with one foot raised, crossed hands towards the Buddha, watching with one mind, never staring at the eyes, for seven days and seven nights, praised the Buddha with one verse: "There is nothing like the Buddha in the heavens and the world, and the worlds in the ten directions are incomparable. I can see everything in the world, and there is nothing like the Buddha!" For seven days and seven nights, I looked at the World-Honored One, my eyes never narrowed, beyond nine kalpas, and in ninety-one kalpas I attained Anuttara-samyak-sabodhi. ------------------------------------------------ A brief explanation in the vernacular: A long time ago, the leader of the Saha world was named "Fusha Buddha". At that time, Shakyamuni was a non-Buddha immortal, and he was also called "Bodhisattva" because of his compassion and compassion for all living beings. At the same time, there was Maitreya Bodhisattva. In order to save the two of them, Buddha Fosha went into deep meditation to observe the causes and conditions, and found that the mind of Sakyamuni Bodhisattva was not yet mature. Although he was compassionate, his ability to understand and observe actions was still insufficient, and the sentient beings who were related to him, The mind and nature are all mature enough to benefit from the Dharma; on the contrary, Maitreya Bodhisattva has a mature mind, but his disciples are mostly immature. Fusha Buddha decided to help Sakyamuni Bodhisattva first, because it is easy for one person to change his mind, but it is difficult for everyone to change at the same time in a short period of time. So Fosha Buddha came to the snowy mountain where Sakyamuni Bodhisattva collected herbs, entered a mountain cave and entered the fire concentration, and his whole body magnified the light, radiating all over the ten directions. Shakyamuni Bodhisattva followed the inconceivable light to the entrance of the cave. When he saw the vision, he was overjoyed. Like a Buddha, the worlds in the ten directions are also incomparable; I can see everything in the world, and there is nothing like a Buddha.” For seven days and seven nights, I never woke up or thought about it, and I never closed my eyes. The power of diligence transcends time and space. Shakyamuni Bodhisattva, who attained Buddhahood after a hundred kalpas, attained Buddhahood nine kalpas earlier. Shakyamuni Bodhisattva manifested himself as a Buddha in the world with an average life expectancy of 80 years, and his wisdom was far beyond his right, all because he planted the victory of "one verse to praise the Buddha" in the past; although there were no other verses in his seven days and seven nights, Merit is better than many verses, and the most important thing is that the mind is pure and not complicated, and it is not too much to say. Furthermore, Sakyamuni Bodhisattva put all living beings before himself in all his lifetimes, and his intention to benefit others is more than self-interest.
