Located on the side of the old railway station, Dr. Ikegami Ichiro Library was originally a freight service office. The signboard of the "Asian Southernmost Japanese Library" is also attached to the door of the wooden building. Originally, Ichiro Ikegami once worked as a military doctor in Takeda, and had a unique feeling for Zhutian. After returning to China, he continued to fund Taiwanese students studying in Japan. Later, in Zhutian local people, Liu Yaozu promoted the establishment of a library. Together with the books donated by the Japan Exchange Association every year, the library now has more than 15,000 Japanese papers for people to borrow, and now attracts many Japanese tourists to pilgrimage.

In a one-story building adjacent to Takeda Station in Pingtung County, various books, mainly Japanese novels, were prepared. Mr. Ichiro Ikegami, who bears the name of the building, was a military doctor who was assigned to this area before the war, but he was also involved in folk medicine, and he was very much loved by the local people. Mr. Ikegami left Taiwan after the war, but he seems to have spared various support to send Taiwanese who are aiming to become doctors to study abroad in Japan, and it was established as a library to honor Taiwanese in the 21st century. .. I was able to meet wonderful people who were kind and considerate while listening to the scenery of the Basho field, the quiet appearance, and the sound of the trains entering the line from time to time.

The post house was originally a wooden building of the "Maru Tetsu Transport Store" (freight service station). It has been rebuilt and now becomes the Dr. Ichiro Ikegami’s library. It is an ultra-mini Japanese information library with many Japanese books for borrowing, attracting many people. The older generations who were educated by the Japanese rule came here to read and rest, and also organized reading clubs to participate in the grand event. Born in 1911, "Ikegami Ichiro" is a doctor of medicine at Tokyo Imperial University. In 1943, he served as a Japanese military doctor in Taketa for about two years. He provided medical services to the people of Taketa and was loved by others. After the defeat of Japan, he returned to Japan. I miss Zhutian very much and regard it as his second hometown. 2001.1.16 coincides with the 91st birthday of Ikegami Ichiro. He is here to host the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the library and donate books and scholarships. After returning to the future, he will die and return home in less than two months. He is finally completed. A lifelong wish. This story describes a foreigner's feelings for Taiwan's land. Such a touching situation full of love for the country and the soil can be used as the best local teaching material.
They are all old Japanese books, very flavorful, and the indoor environment is a bit dark and messy. If you can organize them well, they will be more attractive.

This was once the southernmost library in Taiwan where Japanese books were collected. Many Japanese books are still rented out, and volunteers are still sending Japanese books.

Ichisuke Ichiro, MD, served as a military doctor in the early years and served in Zhutian Township with the troops. Later, in order to commemorate the contribution of the doctor, the villagers established a library here. There are many Japanese books in the collection, as well as souvenirs. The display of photo frames and souvenirs is less planned and looks messy.

I visited on a weekday evening. It is a library that stores Japanese books just below Takeda Station. Although the scale of the library is not large, there were various books such as academic books and manga (such as Kochikame). There is a large table in the center of the building, so you can browse while drinking tea, but it seems that you can rent it. Anniversary festival is held every January, and Japanese people, Taiwanese and Japanese living in Taiwan and Japan gather and interact with each other. I also spoke with many Japanese people living in Taiwan. Most recently, I spent a relaxing time chatting with the gentle director.
