As long as I go to Hualien, I will definitely go to this "Ebisu Cake Shop" to buy "Hualien Taro". My family and I like it very much. The filling is dense and the outer skin is full of cinnamon aroma. This cake shop has a history of more than 100 years since the Japanese occupation era.

This time I bought Huixing Cake, there are 8 flavors in total, you can choose it yourself~ If you buy 10 pieces, you will have a box, 10 pieces of 170 yuan I think it's ok, because other mochi are similar to other stores, so I didn't buy this time. ~

Ebisu was founded in 1899 (Meiji 32) by the Japanese An Fujun My grandfather) hard-working and willing to do things won the favor of An Fujun, and An Fujun has no son, so he regarded him as a son, and put Ebisu Half of the equity was given to Zhang Fang, hoping that the grandpa would let "Ebisu" continue to pass on. In the era of Japanese occupation, An Fujun missed Japanese wagashi, so he developed it together with Zhang Fang. The signature product in the store: "Hualien Potato" (Jianzi taro - Japanese literal translation) It was developed by the two of them after three years. In the Taisho and Showa eras, the jianzi taro has won the emperor of Japan many times. As a reward, it became a tribute to the Emperor of Japan at that time, and there are still many medals and flags in the store. After Taiwan's recovery, Hui Bisu's assets were confiscated by the Kuomintang government. Ebisu's signboard, worked hard to raise 30,000 yuan, bought the store and took over the business; during the 228 incident (being falsely accused Hidden firearms), was arrested and sent to the gendarmerie, where he was tortured to extract a confession and almost died. Just dodged. After experiencing the 228 incident, Zhang Fang was demoralized, and Huibi must suspend business for two years. During this period, his son Zhang Jianji (the second generation of Huibi must be ) encouraged Grandpa to make what An Fujun entrusted to carry forward, so he reopened the store in 1950. In order to survive, the pastry shop sold everything like A "Kanzai Shop", this Ebisu "Kanzai Shop" was completely destroyed in a major earthquake. The rebuilt Ebisu, like the god of good fortune, gradually gained popularity after the opening of the Beihui Railway, and "Hualien Potato" passed through the Beihui The railroad crosses the Central Mountains and becomes a hand-carrying gift for travelers. In 1994, Zhang Jianer and his wife passed away one after another. "Ebisu" has been taken over by the third generation Zhang Shunbin

I will admit that I know the owners of this store, but still, this is the best place to get mochi (rice cakes) and sweets in Hualien! I especially recommend 花蓮芋 (hualien taro) which uses their special own recipe. Many sweet stores in hualien now no longer make their own mochi but rely on a single factory source. But the owners at Ebisu still make their mochi and sweets by themselves!!
