Ji’an Township, formerly known as "Cikasuan", refers to "a place where there are many Cikasoyay" in the Ami language. It is transliterated as "Seven Foot River" in the Han Chinese. In the early days, the scope of activities of the aboriginal Ami was the area of the Qijiaochuan, Lilou, Doulan, and Bobo, among the five major ethnic groups of the Nanshi Ami.
During the Japanese Occupation period, there was a lot of labor in the Aiyong Line who took care of the Japanese people. Eventually, the Qijiaochuan Incident occurred, and the community was scattered everywhere. After the war, some of the Qijiaochuan people returned to live near their original places and became the present Taichang tribe. In 1993, it was renamed the "Qiaochuan Tribe."
