Not your regular monastery. This is the home of Master Cheng Yen and the spiritual home of her followers. About 200 dharma masters (Shifus) live here, all female disciples of the Master. This supremely compassionate place regards every aspect of the environment in its daily activities, and everyone, including the Master and the shifus have to work in order to eat their vegetarian meals. From this centre recycling programs, hospitals, schools (of all levels), emergency relief around the world, has been inaugurated. This is a blessed spot on earth.

This is one of the most incredible places I have had the good fortune to visit. Whilst adventuring in the Hualien and Taroko Gorge areas, my partner & I had our and interrupted by a day of constant rain. Our host recommended that we visit Tzu-Chi as an interesting cultural site and in short I have never been so grateful for a rainy day. I am so glad we did. We were shown around by two incredibly polite and gentle mannered men who showed great interest in us and our background. We were fortunate enough to find out all about Tzu-Chi's legacy of compassion, humanity & 'great love'. We were both literally moved to tears by this in places. It truly is a fantastic and selfless organisation which makes most charities I have worked with in the past seem quite capitalist in comparison. These kind gentlemen were even good enough to buy us lunch. The whole experience will stay with me for my entire life and I feel indebted to these good men for what they have done for me. I urge you to come if you are in Hualien. This is perhaps the greatest charity in the world.

I can't desribe how great and awesome the volunteer in Tzu Chi Foundation. Too good to be true.

I am grateful to Tzu Chi Foundation for teaching me so much about the life purpose, and inspiring me to help others. I am a better person now, thank you, Tzu Chi!!!
