★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a total disappointment. The entire building was roped-off and you couldn't access it, it looks like it needs some care appears a little rundown. Not sure if it's roped-off because of the recent earthquake but not worth going to at all.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This building complex is now under restoration because of serious damage by earthquake.
It used to be Japanese Shinto shrine but was transformed into Chinese palace style Martyrs Shrine around 80s.
It is worth walking here after meals to overlook Hualien city.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went on a Thursday evening and there was not a single person there other than me. It was very serene, and the colors and design of the shrine were really beautiful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Interesting, there were no people whatsoever. You can either enter through the front arc or from the back via that odd "amusement park" on the hill behind the shrine. There's really not much here but it still makes for a decent spot for some nice photos and it can be easily reached by bicycle. If you ride to Ci Xing Tan, you can take the cycling route along the coast on the way there then take the main road into the city on the way back and stop here.
