Gaopingxi River Stop Management Center 2016-06-07 Gaopingxi River is also known as the Big Tree Barrier River. (English: Gaoping River Weir) is a river block in Taiwan. Located in the lower reaches of Gaoping River in Dashu District, Kaohsiung City, two kilometers from the upper reaches of Gaoping Railway Bridge (Xiashuixixi Iron Bridge). It is one of the important water resources development plans for the southern part of Taiwan following the Nanhua Reservoir and the Peony Reservoir. It is the main source of public water supply in Kaohsiung area and has reduced groundwater extraction in high-screen areas. It will ease the subsidence of the stratum and eliminate the disputes over local water rights. Gaopingxi River is the first self-made rubber dam to stop the river in Taiwan, and it is also the widest rubber dam in Taiwan. The southern part of Taiwan has abundant rainfall every year. However, due to the uneven distribution of rainfall time and space, the abundance is vast. In order to provide water for good water quality in the Kaohsiung area, a rubber dam was built in Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County. The main project is sponsored by the Water Resources Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and is handled by the Southern District Water Resources Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. It started construction in September 1994 and was completed in October 1999. The construction cost is NT$3.42 billion. On May 26, 2000, the Gaopingxi River Stop Management Center was established to perform the operation management business.
